SSC Properties Seeks Cost Efficient Housing Designs
As part of our leadership role in the evolution of sustainable development, Sechelt Sustainable Community (SCC) issued a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI) for cost-efficient housing designs on September 16th. The designs are to be built in two of the Foxwood and Age-in-Place neighbourhoods on our 420-acre property in Sechelt, BC.
In issuing this RFEOI we are committing to addressing this critical issue as a first priority in our Plan to be the most sustainable community in North America. One part of meeting this goal is to identify leading-edge solutions that are attractive to the community and viable to builders and developers.
This RFEOI is a direct response to the growing need for cost-efficient housing, for families who cannot find affordable housing in the communities in which they wish to work and for small business owners who cannot attract and retain the workforce they need to succeed, as well as for those living without a home or at risk of becoming homeless.
By showing leadership on this important issue, we will encourage those with creative ideas to join with us to build effective and truly sustainable solutions to this global issue.
The RFEOI has been issued to a wide range of designers, architects, urban planners and community groups, but anyone is welcome to apply. Some of the concepts that Respondents are encouraged to consider include:
· Efficient and affordable dwellings in small groups
· Pocket neighbourhoods, conservation design, cluster-housing
· The use of single-family homes, duplexes, townhomes, row houses
· Human-scale/people-first layouts
· High performance/low operating cost buildings (net-zero, net-positive, off–grid, off-pipe potential)
