SSC Welcomes New Members to Team
SSC Properties is pleased to welcome several new members to the team.
Todd McGowan is a passionate advocate for bringing cultures together through education. He has worked as an educator for twenty years and specifically in international education for the past twelve years. He holds a Master of Education degree in Leadership with a specific focus on international education development. Todd recently returned from Ethiopia where he was working for the Ethiopian Ministry of Education to help develop English language learning programs, improve teacher efficacy, create English learning resources, and expand the scope of English Language Improvement Centre’s in the country. Todd is also an avid adventurer who has been involved in numerous projects that have promoted social change, environmental conservation and sustainability.
Simon Smith is the Innovation specialist who brings his experience using disruptive technologies such as 3D printing and quad copter drones to maximize efficiency and creativity. He along with the IdEA team from Vancouver organized a Summer Innovation and Entrepreneurship Camp at Sechelt’s Seaside Centre where local kids were able to experience technologies though project biased learning. A big believer in creating sustainable solutions for our community, he hopes to help SSC Properties create the blueprint for a 21st Century living environment.
Gordon Halloran is the creator of Paintings Below Zero. His monumental public art installations in ice fascinated audiences (350,000 visited the site) at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver where he created a 100-foot long wall of frozen paintings called Ice Gate. In Chicago 176,000 people came out to see his 200-foot long Museum of Modern Ice. Halloran was Canada’s official representative to the Cultural Olympiad for the 2006 Winter Olympics where his site-specific installation filled an entire church with a myriad of brilliantly coloured works in ice called Pitture Sotto Zero.
Mr Halloran started his career as an award-winning Canadian illustrator known across Canada for his cover paintings for Maclean’s Magazine, The Globe and Mail, The CBC, The Financial Post, Toronto Life Magazine and San Francisco Magazine. He has also been commissioned to create historically significant paintings and drawings for some of the world’s most prominent financial organizations: The Chicago Board of Trade, The New York Mercantile Exchange, The Chicago Mercantile Exchange, The London International Futures Exchange, the Toronto Stock Exchange and the Vancouver Stock Exchange.
His paintings, drawings and prints hang in many public and private collections worldwide and have grown in value over the years because of the detail, his ability to capture real people in exciting portraits, and the historic nature of the work.
Gordon will be working with SSC Properties as Artist in Residence and will create severalsite specific public art projects on their property at East Porpoise Bay in Sechelt.
Duane Burnett has amassed a large following on Sunshine Coast BC social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Google+ where he blogs about the community, creates beautiful videos and specializes in scenic and event photography. He is also an MC hosting numerous annual charity events, as well as an Actor, starring in several sold out productions. His love and passion for the coast is heard around the world and followed by major national media who hire him for local news stories. The community have dubbed him “Mr. Sunshine Coast” and the “Sunshine Coast’s #1 Ambassador.”
